How do you finish a knot on beaded jewelry using waxed cotton cord?
Braided glass beads button bracelet

I don't want to use any type of metals for my jewelry. I'm starting to experiment with waxed cotton cord, I just can't figure out what's the best knot to finish each piece?! Any tutorials out there that are helpful? I prefer visuals than just written instruction.

Thanks!

My mom uses fingernail polish (clear) after tying a regular square knot. I'm not sure if she uses waxed cotton cord, however, but it might work for that as well.

Will cotton cord work as well as twine on a cat tree?
Braided glass beads n yellow button bracelet

We are building a cat tree for two kittens and want to make sure that cotton cord will work as a wrap for the scratching post part of the tree, or, is twine better? (we're not sure if the cotton cord will stand up to lots of scratching as well as twine would)

I would stick with twine, I don't think that cotton cord will stand up to the claws.

Cotton cord with w/white thread interior and rough black exterior.Called friction cord, anyone know other name?
Braided bracelet - glass beads button

We used this cord a lot in University theater 1993-1998. It was between 1/8 and 1/4 inch thick. The rough exterior provided 'friction' to keep knots tied. Have been looking for a source to get this stuff for years because it is endlessly useful. If You recognize the description, what's it really called. If you don't but know where I might be able to obtain it, tell me where, PLEASE.

You got me wondering, because I used to work in film. Black sash cord is used a lot on set, black only because it disappears on film. I checked a site called Filmtools. Look there under "grip equipment". They sell two kinds of black cord, one being sash cord and one being trickline, a name I'm not familiar with and I don't know the difference between that and sash cord. Both say they are cotton with a synthetic core. Synthetic for strength, cotton for the ability to retain knots that you want. Ordinary white cotton sash cord, which they also sell, has the same ability to retain knots. It's what we used to tie things down in the truck so it had to be trustworthy. Synthetic cord of the same size is awful unless you buy yacht quality which is very expensive. Most building supply places only sell synthetic sash cord these days, and it's garbage. I'm hoarding a whole spool of cotton sash left over from my film days.

How do I get Felt Tip Marker off cord trousers? (they are 50% Cotton and 50% Polyester & can be washed at 40)?

Thanks!!!

Put a few drops of glycerin on the mark and sprinkle with cheap talcum powder. You will see the talcum powder absorb the stain. Sponge it off with a damp cloth.

What's the most that you would spend on jeans, cotton twills, or cords?
Molly 2

Would they be dressy or casual? Where do you buy them? A news story last spring said upscale jeans ($130+) were one item that escaped the doomed economy because customers could splurge a relatively small amt on something they would wear many times. Is this a widespread attitude?

I buy my jeans at Wal Mart or Penny's. The most I spend is $25.00. Cords and twills, usually at Penny's on sale. Why pay more for some fancy label made by the same people who make the cheaper ones and don't fit any better or as good.
