Does anyone know of a substitute yarn for Debbie Bliss cotton cashmere?
shawl wip

I think its discontinued I want something just as nice.

Have a look on yarn ball bands to see what tesion and needle sizes are used.

Any that are the same as on the pattern you are using will be okay to substitute.

Hope this helps.

Which material is better: cashmere or cotton?

I'm trying to decide on a winter sweater and I'm not sure which would be warmer the 100% cotton or 100% cashmere.

DEFINITELY get a 100% cashmere sweater. Although they're pretty hard to wash (you have to dry clean or hand wash gently) and really pricey (in the $100~$300 range), they're definitely worth it. It comes from goats, by the way. I can't emphasize enough how soft it is and how warm it keeps you. :)

Cotton would be the more "ideal" fabric to withstand harsher conditions, I guess. You can't hang cashmere sweaters either, or their shape will ruin... :(

Anyways, I would recommend the cashmere sweater if you can manage it well. If you're more of the "no-time-wasted" type of person who doesn't like to take time taking care of your clothes, then get a cotton one.

i have a shirt that is 85% cotton & 15% cashmere. what would happen if i machine washed it?

the tag says dry clean only, but is that really neccessary?

Instead of sending your cashmere sweater to the dry cleaner, wash it! Many people don't realize that cashmere can be hand-washed, and that such care will prolong the life of the garment.

Do I just put it in some cold water and splash it around? Like use some of my body soap in the water and then hang up somewhere?? I hate dealin with sweaters high maintanence what a drag...

Yes, I recommend using Woolite, just a few drops. Wash it with Woolite in cold water in a sink. Swish it around for a few minutes. Drain the soapy water, then rinse all the soap out with clear cold water.

Then lay out an old (but clean) bath towel. Gently shape the wet sweater on the towel and allow it to air dry. This may take a day or two, and you may need to flip the sweater over.

  • NxtDrGrrl: Stella!!!!!!

I came across the Stella McCartney collection for Gap Kids about a week or so ago online. The clothes are a little pricey for a kids collection (IMO), but very well priced for Stella. If you're not familiar with her, besides being the daughter of Paul McCartney (aka one of the Beatles), she also brought the design house Chloe back from the brink in the last decade. She really has her finger on the fashion button in terms of being both fashion-forward and wearable. Anyway, I was at Fashion Square with my little sister today taking a break from the rest of the fam, and we poked our head in to Gap Kids to check it out. It was a wee bit crowded in there, so she got on line while I perused the...
