Can Canvas fabric/Cotton Duck be used for clothing too?
Cozies

Whether it would be iron on fusible safe or sew on patches... Don't forget to mention paint type also.

If so, How shall it get washed so the paint doesnt run or the cloth doesnt shrink?

too many questions and too vague to answer all at once; but, in a nutshell: yes.

check out goldenpaints.com for the technical info, they have good info, quality products: screen printing, washer-safe, heat-setting, etc....

What type of glue do you use to apply fabric onto canvas? HELP :(?
grn and lav closer

I've recently purchased a Wooden Blank Artist Framed stretched Canvas, plus the Fabric I wanted. I wanted to create Fabric Art Walling hanging piece but not exactly to sure where to begin. I've completly gone BLANK :( I've searched the web all I seem to be gettin is how to paint etc. The part I'm stuck on is not sure how to apply the material onto the canvas, like what sort of glue do I use and should I of purchased a canvas without a frame or is better with the frame and later apply the frame?
I was told to apply primer first and use that to stick the fabric onto the canvas.. Not too sure about that. And also Do I need to apply something over the fabric so it would be easier to clean?
What should I be cautious about when doing a piece like this. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated !

My wife is very artsy fartsy and has used fabric on fabric for many projects like yours with great results using a product called spray adhesive, it is easy to use very little mess, with no bleed thru or any other adverse affects, dries fast holds like all get-out and best of all even holds the corners very well indeed. it does not dry hard so fabrics maintains it's original look, you can buy this stuff all most anywhere, hardware store, craft store, and it is very inexpensive. good luck sounds like a cool project

I want to use rubber stamps on fabric. I plan to try stamping on both cotton and canvas fabrics. What type of ink should I use to make it permanent? Are acrylic inks/paints permanent on fabric?

Thanks! =)

Fabric Paints. They sell it in the craft department at Walmart and with the fabric crafts (shirts, hats, totes) area at Hobby Lobby.

Which canvas fabric is best for handbags?
lite pink and grn two strand

I'm going to make some totes and was wanting to use canvas for the outside then a cotton print for the inside. Which canvas fabric would be best? I know that's kind of vague but I was looking on Joann's at this product:

http://joanns.com/joann/catalog/productd etail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true& amp;PRODID=prd23683

and thought it might work. I don't want it to be too thin like cotton sheets. Any help would be great thanks!

There's not enough information in Joann's descriptions to judge whether or not this canvas is going to be thick or thin. Typically, such information is given as the weight of the fabric in oz per square yard or grams per square meter -- larger numbers are heavier fabrics.

Here, for instance, we're informed that the fabric is 10 oz (really 10 oz per square yard) cotton duck:
http://www.fabricdepot.com/index.php?pag e=CatalogPage&pageid=9714 -- that's about the weight of denim in a pair of stiff jeans like old fashioned Levi's 501s.

The thing that really sat me back on my heels when reading the descriptions was "dry clean only". Since cotton is not a fiber ordinarily requiring dry cleaning, this is a big flashing neon sign that says, "expect this fabric to shrink like crazy and/or the dye to run when wet". Not something I'd use for a tote.

Personally, and this is my own preference coming through -- I wouldn't use cotton twill for something like a grocery tote -- it's a relatively fragile fabric, tending to abrade, sag with heavy loads, and if the cut edges are not well finished, they tend to ravel out and cause the seams to fail. I'd use a nylon, Cordura or polyester oxford cloth or packcloth -- it's the sort of fabric used to make backpacks.
Some examples: http://www.owfinc.com/Fabrics/NylonWoven /PackclothOxford.asp#Nylon Packcloth http://www.owfinc.com/Fabrics/NylonWoven /Cordura.asp Lighter weight, washes and dries quickly, excellent abrasion resistance, better sun resistance, no more of a PITA to cut and sew than cotton canvas.

how can i lock arcylic ink into fabric (cotton in this case) to help prevent it from washing out?
mustard and pink

I make woodblock prints, lacquer them until they are completely sealed and stamps them on canvas; however, these never get washed.

I took a stamp and stamped a t-shirt with arcylic ink (like silk screening ink) and I want to do something to it to make sure that it does not fade (as the print is already light).

i have thought about things like ironing it, scotchgaurd, etc. but i have no idea if any of these will suit my needs.

thanks in advance for your help.

I would do some testing with the same ink on swatches. Try different methods and see if any of them work.

I don't really know anything about acrylic, but I wonder if it would melt if you drycleaned it? You could test that with a home drycleaning kit that you use in the dryer..Use the more expensive kit with the bag, in case it does melt and that way you wouldn't ruin your dryer. Then if the ink drycleaned ok, would your cotton shirt shrink from the heat?

There is a way to heat-press by ironing with a pressing cloth, but again, I don't know if the acrylic will melt or burn.

Try different detergents as well. I like Woolite for colors (or any generic that is specifically labelled as non-fading and gentle) And wash it inside out to minimize abrasion.

Sorry I couldn't answer with experience. I do a lot of wacky things with fabric and so I do a lot of laundry testing as well.
