Why is there cotton in the bottom of my range?

I was looking under my range tonight and noticed on both sides there is cotton shoved up in there. I do have a mouse problem where I live. But is the cotton supposed to be there or did the mice put it there?
As I just went back to the kitchen and felt it again, my the light bulb in my brain finally turned on telling me it may be insulation, then I saw you guys said that so I think that's what it is.


Are you sure it is not insulation, put there by manufacturer?

What is this cotton-like stuff that was at the bottom of my fish aquarium?

The other day, I noticed this cotton-like looking thing that was at the bottom of my fish tank. It's only a 10 gallon tank and only had one goldfish in it. It was like that for a few days and I planned on cleaning it today, and well, the fish died! Does anyone know what that was and what caused it? Is that why my fish died (the fish was actually 1.5 yrs old)?


What you probably saw was a fungus named Saprolegnia (Water Mold). It is commonly caused by too much uneaten food and other gunk in your tank, and will grow on them. Your goldfish probably got a little on itself, and it is harmful to them.
This can be remedied by treating the water with a medication containing methylene blue or malachite green. Here are a few products that can cure it:
Rid-Ich
Cure-Ick
Anti-Fungus
Ick Clear
Fungus Clear
Maracide
Maroxy
In the future, what you could do to prevent this from happening again is to not overfeed and clean the gravel more thoroughly. Water mold is a good indication of poor aquarium maintenance.
I'm sorry about what happened to your goldfish. Hopefully we can all learn from our mistakes.
