Cotton Batting

What is the difference between Timtex and cotton batting? ?
A Princess Quilt

Both are extra thick and can be used to pad up sewing projects such as bag bottoms. The only thing is the cotton batting I've seen is usually used to pad up quilts. But is there a 'true' difference?

There is a HUGE difference. Cotton batting is soft and drapy and cuddly. Timtex is stiff, like the beaks of baseball caps

As you see, NOT the same at all.

When making a quilt, does cotton batting shrink or wear out faster than polyester?

Does cotton batting work in a tied quilt? Does it get lumpy?

They've come a long way in batting. All of the good quality cotton battings have been preshrunk, but you can wash the batting before putting it into your quilt to make sure. Polyester will not wear out because it's basically plastic. So what? The top and backing of your quilt are probably made from cotton. What's the point in having a perfectly preserved layer of batting, when the top and backing have long since worn away? As far as cotton working in a tied quilt, it depends on the brand you use and how closely you tie the quilt. Read the directions on the packing and it will tell you how closely it needs to be quilted. If the packaging calls for quilting every 3", I would NOT use it for a tied quilt. If it says every 10", you'll be fine with tying.

The advantage to cotton batting (and any other natural fiber) is that it is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Polyester batting will always be warm. Polyester batting can be higher loft for a fluffy quilt, but cotton batting will always be flat. You can also find blends - 80/20 and 50/50 are common.

Where to buy thin cotton batting in Hong Kong?

I am making a rag quilt. I need thin cotton batting, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in Hong Kong.

If you can't find batting (it may be called wadding), try using flannel in place of the batting.

Never used "cotton batting" for quilts, is there anything i should watch for when buying and using?
Stash Buster Quilt - binding

have always used "polyester" batting. is cotton easily found, is it hard to sew with on the machine, is it very heavy, how expensive is it?

Cotton batting is easy to use. It's a bit more expensive, but it makes a warmer quilt. Your quilt stitches need to be a bit closer when using cotton, & can be hand or machine quilted easily. It does shrink a bit though, so I suggest you use fabric that has not been pre-washed in your project, so the material, & the batting will have the same shrinkage factor.

Does cotton batting shrink?
Fairy on a Cloud

I am sewing a baby quilt and just wondering whether I should wash the cotton batting before I sew it in because I know cotton will shrink. Any help please!
Oh P.S., it is 80% cotton, 20% polyester.

I doubt it would shrink that much, but, to be safe I'd wash it.

Now there’s a sweet option. Minute Suites to be exact.

The world’s busiest airport is thinking “inside the box,” joining its international peers by offering small rooms — think of them as the land-based version of cruise ship cabins — for rent, short-term. Travelers can check in and relax as they wait for connecting flights.

Hartsfield-Jackson representatives gave The Atlanta Journal-Constitution a sneak peek Friday at what they say is a first in the nation — five “suites” on Concourse B that offer pullout daybeds, 32-inch flat panel TVs built into the wall, high-speed wireless Internet and a clock for those who need a wake-up call. The cost: $30 for the first hour and $7.50 for every 15 minutes afterward.

So, Sanguinius' wings are a go! I looked at wing tutorials last night until my eyes bled and I've now got a fairly solid idea of how they'll go together. The back attachment isn't NEAR as complicated as I imagined - it's simply a small plate about the size of a mouse pad with two PVC pipes bolted to it. The PVC of the wings slot into these pipes so you can take the wings off and on very easily. The plate is belted around your waist and over the shoulders, though the waist will take the brunt of the weight. I was actually worried about this earlier since these wings are going to be BLOODY heavy - they're about six feet tall, upwards of 200 feathers on each, plus PVC frame, cotton batting for 'musculature'...
