Does anyone know a way to shrink a too-big cotton tank?
Self Portrait, Two

I bought a 100% cotton tank from Old Navy, and it was way too big. I should have realized it, but now I'm stuck with it. If only I could shrink it, I could wear it! Thanks for the help!

It's cotton! Of course it'll shrink! Wash it in hot water and put it in the dryer. Do it a couple times untill it's small enough.
Or, before you wash it, you can just return it.

Cotton shirts that are a bit too big. Don't want to fully dry though How long should I dry for tiny shrinkage?
stary eyed

I bought some new cotton size large shirts. They are just slightly too big, but the medium size was too small. I don't want to fully dry them in the dryer as I know they will shrink too much, but I do want them to shrink just a very tiny bit. Does anyone have any experience with what might be a good amount of time to dry them in the dryer to get just a little shrinkage, not too much?

Cotton shrinks.two times. The first two washings and drying. You need to buy the XL. Use cold water. Line dry if you can. Put in dryer to fluff. Or, dry on low heat for about 15 min. and then hang. A lot of heat will really shrink these.

why do the big trucks that pick up the bails of cotton from the fields have the flashing yellow lights on them
Ponemah Mill

Why do the big trucks that pick up the bails of cotton from the fields have the flashing yellow lights on the front and back bumpers? No other transfer truck has this light.

Safety....

Many times the work of loading these bales lasts well into the night. Then the areas are rural with little natural lighting and no street lights. Its VERY dark and these trucks are parked alongside the road.

How do you make a bandana necklace with the big wooden beads and cotton balls?
California Roll (OCV) BIG Tiny

I remember making these back in the 1980s but can't remember how we did it. Anyone? Thanks!

I think they were made with bandana type fabric rather than a whole bandana (and often with other fabrics too). From what I remember, the fabric was cut into a long strip, then sewed all along one long side and probably one short side (inside out). It was then turned inside out so the fabric faced outward.

A bead with a large hole was threaded onto one end of the fabric tube to the "end" position (leaving enough fabric to tie or to add a clasp, or not to fall on top of the shoulders, etc), then glued there to hold in place.
Then a bit of polyester stuffing or perhaps a cotton ball was shoved all the way to the first bead inside the fabric tube.

Then another bead was threaded onto the outside of the tube, another bit of stuffing inserted in the tube . . . repeat, repeat.

The last bead probably needed to be glued in place too, or guess it could be sewed through the back side of its large hole.

Can I wash a 100% cotton shirt that is to big so it will shrink a size smaller?
California Roll (OCV) BIG Tiny

It's a 100% cotton polo shirt XXL, I didn't really look at the size but I needed a XL.

Cotton shrinks a maximum of 5% in length and 8% in width. It only shrinks when it over dries. In other words, washing in hot water won't do it and just putting it in the dryer won't do it. You need to put it in the dryer and leave it drying an extra 15-20 minutes after normal dry in order to induce shrinkage.

Of course, you could just take it to a good dry cleaner shop and have it altered. But that might cost almost as much as the shirt, depending on the brand.

  • Poll: Cotton or Outback? - VolNation

Just out of curiosity, Does anybody know where I can purchase a jacket like Monte Kiffin was sporting for the game last night? Ed Orgeron was wearing the same one in the helicopter a while back and I absolutely love that jacket. I cannot find it anywhere. I am beginning to think that the staff is having them made just for them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Vol Nation! I would love to go to the Cotton because its a bigger bowl and it would be a better game because the big 10 is garbage....but the Outback would be better for recruiting purposes..that we are recruiting way more in south FLA than anywhere in Texas. So I honestly I would rather go to the Outback bowl this year strictly...
