100 Cotton Yarn

I am considering cotton-ease but I am getting mixed reviews on the lion brand product. Please help! Yarn is exspencive and I can't afford to spend money on stuff that won't work.
I'm making a sweater. I like the feel of cotton much better then wool. I love how TLC Cotton Plus knits and cares, but I'm looking for a charcole color.

I worked at a knitting store for a year and a half, and the best cotton yarn by far is Blue Sky Alpacas brand organic or dyed cotton. I use it for everything. It is so soft, comes in a lot of colors, and is worsted weight. It's even machine wash and dryable. It comes in hanks of 150 yds and usually costs around $10 a hank. You can find it at some yarn shops, but you can go to the blue sky site for stores that carry it. Or you could get it online. The store I worked at has an online store and carries it all the time. It is called Unwind Yarn in Burbank, CA. I just moved to NC and there are no local stores that carry Blue Sky, which is my favorite brand. They also have great alpaca obviously. I will be continuing to order it from Unwind! Nothing else compares.

I have noticed a lot of patterns call for 100% cotton yarn to be used, and don't understand why... is it more durable, or absorbent, or what?

It is absorbent, durable, and dries quickly. Acrylic yarns last, but don't have the ability to scrub that cotton yarns do. They can also pick up odors that can be difficult to get rid of.

Looking for brand names of the best 100% cotton yarn for sweater, hat, & scarf making. I've been using Sugar n' Cream, which is nice, but wondering if there's better stuff out there for crochetting and knitting garments.

Brown Sheep's Cotton Fleece is a very nice, worsted weight cotton yarn for sweaters and it holds its color when washed, it's also reasonably priced. Takhi's Cotton Classic is a DK weight, mercerized cotton, but it runs on the more expensive side, but it is gorgeous stuff to knit with. Mission Falls has a nice cotton yarn, also expensive, though, as is Manos' Cotton Stria.

Sugar 'n Cream can be a bit stiff in the wearing in tighter gauges, Peaches 'n Cream is just a bit lighter and less so. Lion Cotton is pretty decent, too.

Will be making a scarf for mother's day with white, rose pink, and hot pink yarn. Wondering if the darker hot pink color will run and ruin it. Thanks for all your help!

I have had the dark Lily colors run, especially the dark reds, purples, navy blue and black. Every time I use them now, I first wind the skein onto a wire coat hanger and tie it in several places to keep it from coming unwound. Then I soak it in the sink in very hot water that I have added 4 tablespoons of salt and 1 cup vinegar. after swishing it around over a 15 minute period, I rinse it in cold water bath at least 3 times, then let it hang dry. That will normally set the colors so they don't run,
Just to be on the safe side, if you are worried, and it's already made, tell your Mom it's best to wash it in cold water.
