100% cotton - 500 count bedsheets are too stiff?

I have 500 count 100% cotton bed sheets that are too stiff. I tried washing in hot water to soften them and run them in the dryer, but it didn't work. I thought the higher the count the softer they are. How can I soften them?

Soft 100% cotton start at 700 count. Try soaking them in the washing machine loaded with liquid fabric softener over night. Then add a little vinegar to the wash, no detergent. Then dry.

My sister got period blood on my bed (I know it's gross, that's why i want to wash it out) so how can I clean that? I don't know if it makes a difference but my bed sheets are 100% organic cotton. My bed sheets are brown..so I can't bleach it or anything.. any suggestions??
I really love my bedsheets and I don't want to throw them out. They just match perfectly with my room.

What is the best website or brand to get 100% egyptian cotton bed sheets from?

I have done my research but I am still "iffy" about a few sites. I don't want to spend $100+ on bed sheets and then end up with a crappy product. I have looked at Linens & Things and Anippe.com but I'm not sure on the quality. Please help! Thanks!

Here are the ones I am looking at...

My advice to you is not to buy this type of item online. How would you know what you are getting if you can't touch and feel the item? Photographs can easily lie. The camera doesn't always see what the naked eye would see. This is why I rarely buy clothes and shoes online, unless it's standard sandals or something.

The quality of Linens and Things is pretty true to what they say, or if you buy from one the well established department store websites like Neiman Marcus, or Nordstrom etc.

why do you have to wash new sheets b4 use? difference between 100% cotton and 100% cotton sateen?

bought bedsheets that are250 thread count.
front of package says 100% cotton
back of package says 100% cotton sateen (algodon)
note: the word algodon has and accent mark over the second "o"

i put the sheets on the bed already but the pkg says to maching wash before use. I really don't fell like taking them off, washing and putting them back on the bed. is it really necessary?
the sheets are all white --like snow--with pinstripes

"Algódon" is Spanish and means cotton.

They don't have to be washed right out of the package, but there is a starch-like product in them that makes them rather stiff, giving that new, crisp feel. It doesn't fully come out in the first wash, in my experience. Some people may be allergic or sensitive to it, so washing before using is a good idea.

The cotton sateen has a silk-like appearance without the feel of silk. I don't like the sateen because it feel greasy to me, and I find it creates a lot of static, especially in dry winter. It does look nice in bed sheets when woven with ordinary silk to create stripes, though.

what's the difference between egyptian cotton and regular fabric for bedding?

i don't get it. why on earth would someone spend 50-100 bucks on bedding just because it's egyptian cotton instead of regular? isn't all bedding the same? please help insight a guy on this =D

No, it's not all the same.

Egyptian cotton (and other high-thread count bedding) are much, much softer and more luxurious than the lower-priced bedding available.

Has to do with the length of the fibers used in the weave of the cotton, but for practical purposes, the big difference is in the "feel" of the fabric.

Lots of people think it's totally worth it to blow big bucks on the pricier stuff, but I'm in the minority ... I actually PREFER the crisper, less soft feel of the cheaper ones!

  • Buy Cheap

  • Snuggle up with a down comforter and save

Down and feather bedding certainly sounds luxurious, but it can be an economical expense.

Let me explain. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends we lower our thermostats by 10 to 15 degrees for eight hours a day in order to save 10 percent on our heating bill. That can mean really cold feet during the winter.

Here's where down feathers come in. Down insulates by trapping warm air and wicking away moisture. This is what makes comforters comfortable. And down comforters are light, too, so you don't feel buried under heavy coverings. Here is a list of tips for buying and caring for a down comforter from the American Down and Feather Council (ADFC).

The best comforter stitching allows the down to remain fluffy while minimizing shifting and bunching. Baffle (three-dimensional boxes) and sewn-through constructions are the best options.
