Wash 100 Cotton Shirt

I bought a good piece of shirt a month ago and on the tag it says 100% cotton together with the annoying"Dry Clean Only." I didnt read the tag at first and washed it after wearing once. The clothes looks fine to me and i wonder if its safe to wash 100% cotton shirt with cold water because i basically wash all my spring/summer clothes by hand. Is it really just a fashion fancy?

Yes you can wash this shirt either by hand or washer method, but it is wise to use a gentle detergent like Woolite or even Baby Shampoo will do a great wash and be gentle too when using Baby Shampoo in ths sink to wash clothing just use two tablespoons Baby Shampoo to a sink full of cool water or washing machine method quarter to a half cup of Baby Shampoo cool water, Woolite follow directions on bottle Use only a gentle cycle for machine washing and hand washing gently squeeze the suds through the garment then rinse in cold water do not wring blot out excess water and line dry or hang in a warm room to dry do not hang on a coat hanger as this will cause it to stretch out of shape, do not put in dryer or use fabric softeners or dryer sheets Washing machine use gentle cycle Good Luck !

It's a 100% cotton polo shirt XXL, I didn't really look at the size but I needed a XL.

Cotton shrinks a maximum of 5% in length and 8% in width. It only shrinks when it over dries. In other words, washing in hot water won't do it and just putting it in the dryer won't do it. You need to put it in the dryer and leave it drying an extra 15-20 minutes after normal dry in order to induce shrinkage.

Of course, you could just take it to a good dry cleaner shop and have it altered. But that might cost almost as much as the shirt, depending on the brand.

Hi, today I went out to shopping to buy some LRG clothing. I wear size Extra Large but unfortunetly, they only had 2XLs for the shirts I wanted and I ended up buying two of them.

So I was wondering, if I wash the two extra large 100% cotton LRG shirt once, will it become same size as extra large shirt? Detailed answers would be very appriciated. Thanks for answers in advance!

If you wash it in hot water it will shrink considerably. I would guess that after it does it will be probably closer to a 1x. Drying in the dryer on the perm press setting which is the hottest will shrink it even more. Be careful though if these shirts are a dark color. Cotton tends to fade in hot water somewhat. Try one if they are dark....see how it fades.......and check the size. If you don't like it at least you can return the untouched one. I would think the only bad result could be fading if its dark. And what settings should i put it on.

Wash it any way you usually wash your shirts, the key is the dryer. If you keep it in there on high heat for a long time, it will definitely shrink and feel tighter.

can i just machine washin it, insted of hand wash it, even tho the washin instructions say to hand wash it?

if the label says Hand washed , then hand wash it, the agitation of the machine may damage the fabric , but remember to always use cold water when washing 100% cotton and never put it in the drier . Hand wash only and hang to dry .
