Silk Cotton Shirt

I have a beautiful shirt that went out with my business shirts and came back looking dull and drab. It is 55% silk 45% cotton. I assume it was laundered in warm water and starched. Can anything be done to restore the appearance?

You can try rinsing the starch out with cool water, what do you have to lose if you think it's ruined?

I recently acquired a beautiful cotton/silk shirt (60% cotton, 40% silk) that says on the label "Hand wash cold." I really don't want to ruin it, but I don't have an iron, and I know silk wrinkles really easily when it gets wet. I use Dryel (home dry-cleaning in the dryer) for most of my dry-clean only clothes. Would it be safe for me to put this shirt in the dryer, or should I hand wash it instead?

It is of course up to you. But I would wash it in the washer on cold in the gentle cycle using a mesh garment wash bag. After washing, shake it out with a nice snap shake. Then hang it to dry...if you don't have an outside line, just put it on a padded hanger and let it hang on your shower rod.

My husby accidentally threw my nice eggshell colored top in with the whites he was bleaching. It now looks like someone urinated on it and is a little splotchy. I had the idea I would dye it a crimson or maroon color. What is a good way to dye this shirt. It is 56 % silk, 20% cotton, and 24 % nylon and is a sort of knit material tank top... if this helps or affects what to dye it with.
I would like to try to salvage it, as it fits very well and is one of my favorite tops.

Any suggestions?

Oh Gosh I know the feeling. It always happens to our most favorite things for some reason.

What I do and have never had it fail is first make sure your shirt is clean.

I put my washer on small load. I can usually find something else to dye at the same time.

First fill the washer and then gently pour in the dye. use something to stir the die into the water so the dye is mixed in good.

Turn on the washer to wash on slow but don't let it get to the spin cycle.

Stop before the spin and re start the washer to wash again. This gives it plenty of time to process the dye into all of the fabric.

Depending on the color I add two boxes of dye.
If I like the color a lot but wish it was a little darker I add a bit of black dye to the color.

Turn garment inside out. machine wash cold with like colors. use only non-chlorine bleach when needed. tumble dry low. remove promptly. do not iron.

please please help this shirt is stunning and it was bought for holiday which starts in 3 days.....

My question is the shiny fabric of the tie looks a bit awkward against the cotton?

a cotton polo shirt is not intended to wear with a tie - it's a casual look... no tie!
