should I wash a denim shirt inside out?
1940's Rose Petal Blouse & 1950's Chambray Blue Pencil Skirt

Hello, I have a denim shirt, 100% cotton. Should I wash it inside out? I should also mention that it has snap-on buttons. Should I snap them together when I wash it? Should this be washed in cold water? Normal or gentle cycle? Thanks!

Hello, I also have a denim shirt....aren't we lucky?
The reason why people say to wash shirts inside out is so if there's any details on it (like say embroidery) (or rhinestones) they won't get ruined. So yes, I would snap the buttons and wash it inside out.
And if you don't want it to shrink, pick cold water.
Anything made of 100% cotton is going to get smaller if you use warm or hot water.
As far as the cycle goes, normal is fine.

first try some thinner. that may remove it or soften it at least.

then:

Try MULTIPLE washes with GOOP hand cleaner in warm water. This will hopefully remove the embedded residue.

let the goop sit on the fabric for 15 minutes each time

Help! I need to get ink out of a cotton shirt?
NO2S-003 (natural mélange) cotton mélange l/s open boatneck cropped shirt LF0S-016 (white) sheer rib racerback tank NE3M-008 (black) stretch denim mini skirt w/zipped up detail

I seriously messed up. I was so tired I put the shirt in the washing machine without checking the breast pocket first.

The pen came apart and has stained the inside of the pocket with black ballpoint pen ink. It's peeking out a bit, so I need to get it out. The shirt is a light blue denim-y type of fabric.

I did not put it in the dryer; right now it's soaking in cold water, tide and baking soda. It's not helping. Your suggestions please!

Give this a try- I pulled it from a Scott Common Sense article on getting rid of stains:

Pen Ink: Whether it's a misdirected pen mark or a full-fledged pen explosion, fate would have it that ballpoint ink stains will end up on your favorite shirt or pants. But they can be removed with some persistence. Try these tips: Blot the stain with cool water to remove as much ink as possible and allow the spot to dry. Place the stained item on a pad of paper towels and wet the backside with hairspray. Blot the fabric to further remove as much ink as possible. Finally, apply laundry pretreatment and wash in warm water. Let the item air dry to avoid setting the ink in the dryer, should any stain remain. If you're left with only traces of a stain, consider using bleach applied with a Q-Tip and rewashing.

If I wash my clothes in hot water, that is cotton shirts and blue jeans will they shrink even if not dried?
bluejean-buttondown

Like, I have cotton shirts, and denim jeans, and I wash them in hot water, my fiance says they shrink, I tell her they only shrink when I dry them, and the jeans only shrank once, is this true, or are the clothes shrinking every time I wash wheather I dry or not? My clothes my whole life have never shrank, and I have used hot water to wash and warm sometimes cold to rinse, and I dry on high heat all the time, she says I buy extra baggy clothes so I don't notice the shrinking, I just want to know if it is true that they are shrinking by washing in hot water, the label says to wash in like colors in warm water.

Our washer washes in hot, we can was in cold but I prefer hot, gets 'em cleaner, and it rinses in cold, but it is not too cold just a little cooler than room temp.

Our clothes are American cotton, and some are even mixed with polyester, and most were bought at Wal-Mart or Ross.

If you don't dry the jeans they will be hard if no softener is used, But they will not shrink. You need the dryer for that. Do his the way he thinks and let him see the difference, when you put yours in the dryer.

Why is denim so much more rigid and stiff than other twill fabrics?
Angelino shirt set

Why is denim so stiff and rigid, especially compared to other twill fabrics? Also, is there some special type of cotton yarn used in denim manufacturing, because when I ripped a pair of jeans and looked closely at the individual yarns, they seemed very rough and easy to pull apart, not like a similar sized yarn used to knit a cotton sweater or shirt for example.

Depends entirely on the yarns used. The weft or filling yarns are generally undyed and poorly twisted, which is what I think you're seeing. The warp yarns are typically fairly tightly twisted. Most cotton twills have similar yarns in warp and weft.
