Colored Cotton T-shirt

a year ago some wax was spilled onto a shirt I really love, that is why I didnt throw it away...anyway,,I remembered that you can get wax out of the carpet by putting a towel ove it and then ironing over it,,,but that did not work for my shirt..any ideas????????????????

Two things:
1: Take it to a dry cleaners and tell them what happened and see if they can clean it.
2: Use paper towels or newspapers to soak up the wax when you iron it. When you iron it be sure to put a piece of cardboard or something in between the layers of your shirt so the wax doesn't go onto the back of your shirt. Also be sure to use a relatively hot iron. Not so hot to burn the towels, or your shirt, or the newspapers. Make sure you swap out the paper towels when you iron over it and it soaks some of the wax up. This may take a few passes and tries before you get it out. You could also try freezing it and seeing if it will flake or peel off. It's a drag that all my new t's are getting ruined between the first and second washing.The spots aren't visible until after the shirts go through the dryer. I'm using an environmentally-sensitive, fragrance-free detergent and Mrs. Meyer's dryer sheets. I'd love to find a way to (a) prevent this problem and (b) fix the damage already done.

Try blotting at the spots with plain old dish soap, and try the next load without fabric softener, it's probably the culprit.

Any suggestions? I washed it in cold yesterday with tide. it is a bright colored cotton stretch t-shirt from gap. I didn't apply anything directly to the stain because i was washing it right away. I let it air dry last night...is it too late?

You can still save the shirt just put a little bit of dishwashing soap directly on the stain just a little dab right on the grease, the kind that cuts grease like dawn, and then wash as normal it should come out with no problems.

I am planning on dying a plain white 100% cotton shirt for my halloween costume, but from what research I've done, it says this is not possible with food coloring, that it will wash out.

Well I really don't plan on reusing this shirt ever again so it will not be washed after Halloween, so I would like to know how you dye a cotton T-shirt with food coloring.

Also how would I leave a certain area white (words)?

use Rit dye - sold in Walmart, it's really cheap, and this is on their website:

This is the best technique for dyeing small or delicate items.

Fill sink or bucket with enough hot water for fabric to move freely. Remember: Use 1 package of RIT powder or 1/2 bottle of RIT liquid dye and 3 gallons of hot water for each pound of fabric. Pre-dissolve powder in 2 cups of hot water. Add pre-dissolved powder or liquid to dye bath. Stir to mix.

Wet fabric in hot water. Uncrumple and add to dye bath.

Stir constantly (back and forth, up and down) for 10 to 30 minutes.

Rinse in warm water, then gradually cooler water until water runs clear. Wash item in warm water with mild detergent and rinse thoroughly in cool water.

Dry item in dryer or air dry.

Clean sink or bucket immediately with chlorine bleach or scrub with chlorine-based powder, liquid, or gel cleanser.
