Double Cotton Bedding

Hi
My baby is 3 weeks old, and ive been reading some info on reducing the risk of cot death, and it says about not letting your baby over-heat, but it doesnt have anything on how much bedding a baby should have, so i was wondering how much i should give her-she has been having 2 blankets, one of which is a cotton celular blanket which is doubled-over, and the other is a knitted one which my grandma made, also doubled-over-is this too much? the temp of the room is 18 degrees C.

My daughter is 3 and 1/2 weeks old and Im also in the uk I just swaddle her in one blanket.

I would advise you to ditch one of the blankets and just use the cotton cellular blanket. Place the baby in the moses basket with his or her feet touching the bottom and tuck the corners of the blanket under the mattress if you are not swaddling the baby to reduce the risk of suffocation.

i want to buy a double bed quilt. i wonder what material shud it be. the ones generally available are made of polyfibre with a cotton outer lining. wud it be a good idea to sleep in this synthetic fabric? what else shud i be looking at while buying a quilt?

The top and bottom of a quilt can be made of different material (i.e. cotton, polyester) the lining or batting in the middle is usually polyfiber of some sort.

What kind you should look for depends on what you want. Most commerically available bed quilts are assembly line made by machine. You can find " hand-made" quilts, but they are usually alot more expensive because of the time in making it. I have been quilting for 14 years and i feel that the ones that are hand-made are the best. They are speacial and can be passed down generations if you take good care of them.

Another option is to find someone to teach you to quilt. It is alot of fun and then you can create your own quilt. Good luck!

I have never bought bed sheets (my ex wife took care of that).

For a standard double (full size) bed, I want / need a top sheet, bottom sheet, and 2 pillow cases. I go to stores in Louisville Ky and find so many choices, I have no idea which to choose.
I want really high quality and high comfort level. Money is no object.
There are 250 count, 400 count, 600 count. There are egyptian cotton, and other materials. There are Bed-in-a-Bag sets.
What brands are best ????

Yes, the Bed-in-Bag are sets and would fit your needs, except I've found them to be.........cheap.

You what the highest thread count you can afford. The closer the threads, the smoother and stronger the sheet. Realize also the more threads per inch (count) the heavier the sheet. This is a surprise to some. Egyptian cotton is considered high quality as the fiber is longer, thus less potential nubs......like you'll notice them, not.

Thread counts can go up to 1,000 if you really want to go top of the line.

Personally I prefer all cotton sheets, some folks put polyester in, not for me.

Higher quality sheets will last years! I find I get tired of sheets before they wear out.

Be aware of your matress size (depth) Newer ones are exceptionally thick and you'll have to pay attention to that, older sheets don't accomodate the thicker matresses.

As to brands, the only one that comes to mind is Martex. There are many others, Martex is the only one that comes to mind. Sorry, I don't buy sheets that often.
