Count Cotton Bed Sheet

I have a 400 thread count Egyptian cotton bed sheet. But it is very stiff and not smooth and soft enough, even after several washes.

Is there a way I can soften it up quickly? Thanks!

I have 500 count 100% cotton bed sheets that are too stiff. I tried washing in hot water to soften them and run them in the dryer, but it didn't work. I thought the higher the count the softer they are. How can I soften them?

Soft 100% cotton start at 700 count. Try soaking them in the washing machine loaded with liquid fabric softener over night. Then add a little vinegar to the wash, no detergent. Then dry.

What's with the sateen? I live in FL, is that going to be warm? I don't need warm. Please advise of what is considered "good" when it comes to sheets for the bed. It has to be cotton though. Any experiences with egyptian cotton? I saw some other ones there that read egyptian cotton.

It has been said here, but the lower the count, the ROUGHER the material is. The count refers to the numbers of lines per inch as it is woven. A 200 count for a bedsheet would leave most people feeling like they were sleeping on course wool. I personally wait till they go on sale and get nothing less than 400. 800 to 1000 feels like silk and is much more expensive. Sateen is a reference to the look and feel and is a good thing to have.

i am not so sure that any cotton regardless of density will protect against dust mites but there are plastic covers for mattresses which completely encase the mattress and i think that might be what you need. but don't forget the pillow. that is where your head lays for hopefully eight hours. i purchased both mattress cover and pillow covers at walmart. also there is a febreze product that helps with dust mites.
