Quilters, can you machine quilt with cotton batting?
Shabby Chic Quilt

I've always used low-loft polyester batting. Will cotton batting work with a standard sewing machine (not a long arm)? The quilt will be for twin size bed.

I am not a long term quilter, but on my first quilt I used Warm and Natural (cotton) with my cotton fabrics. It was easy as pie to get it to lay straight and even, and easy to quilt. It was a baby quilt but held together beautifully. I used a low loft poly one for the second one and had a terrible time getting it flat and straight. It turned out all right but I spent much more time pinning the poly than spraying with basting spray and getting the cotton layers even

WEIMARANER TRAINERS: Is there a dog bed my Weimaraners WON'T tear up?

I am good trainer in every aspect but the torn dog bed.
Mine are 90 pound 12 year-old dogs and they have destroyed every bed I have ever provided in spite of how much attention they receive. I cannot sleep i the same room with them and I have not slept with them since they were puppies and found that I am allergic to them and they snore. I take an allergy pill if the symptoms are too severe during the day and I keep them clean to limit their allergic qualities. Recently they went three weeks without tearing up the King sized quilted cotton bed comforter that I put on the floor for them. They are inside dogs with a dog door to go to the backyard whenever they want.
They have had the outdoor kind of beds with chips in them, the cloth covered foam beds and even a twin sized mattress once. I love these two dogs and will keep them no matter what they do, but it is very expensive to protect their bones from the hard floors. When they went without a bed for a few months in the summer months they developed big callouses and scrape marks on their legs and I can't have that happen again. I can't even estimate how expensive it has been to keep these dogs comfortable.
Does anyone out there have chronic dogbed destroyers that foud a soft bed solution that the dogs do NOT destroy? Even the veterinarians we have seen have run out of ideas.
When they eventually die of old age I obviously will not get a large breed dog again.
P.S. Their health is very good. The vet said their blood panels from their yearly exams show their health is better than most dogs half their age.
They tore up a pile of towels too but not until they had them for a week. They are two 90 pound dogs, so there must be a lot of fabric between them and the hard floor to protect their joins and give some cushioning.
This is a tough problem to solve, isn't it?

Has anyone made a quilt/coverlet from fine silk like polyester fabrics?

I've been asked to make a twin bed cover/quilt from "Hawaiian" mu-mu fabrics. I assumed the fabrics would be cotton floral prints. When the box arrived it contained a dozen flowing caftans and a number of scarves of fine silk like polyester, all in dramatic prints. I can't imagine that fabric as a bed quilt. Has anyone worked with this type fabric for a coverlet? How would I stabilize the work? Thanks for all input.

That stuff is difficult to quilt well, will need to be stabilized, and is otherwise a pain to work with on a quilt project. I'd return the materials and commission.

Will bleach remove all of the color from a cotton comforter?

I'm a college student living in a dorm for the first time this year. My dorm needs Twin XL bedding and to save money, I'm using my cousin's who moved into an apartment and no longer needs it.

Only thing is, it's really ugly. It's a weird pastel striped pattern on one side and dark blue and floral on the other.

If I throw it in the wash with hot water and bleach, will I have a white comforter? I'd like to just dye it a solid color or tye-dye it after, I'd just like to know if the color will come out completely. The tag says it's 100% cotton.

Yeah, the first answerer was right. But look, these aren't that expensive:

and also, stores like Marshall's, Ross, and TJ Max usually have cute stuff at very discounted prices.

I think this is an investment worth making. I lived in the dorms, too, and with the way dorms look these days, having a nice new bedding set will really make a difference. Also, most other people with have new ones, so you don't want to feel left out.

PS: I was definitely a penny pincher in college; I didn't have financial support from parents, so I definitely respect trying to save money!
