We just converted our 2yr old son's crib into a toddler bed and he's asking for a Lightning McQueen blanket. I found a really cute cotton blanket panel and bought some fleece to line the backside with. Can I use stitch witchery sheets (not strips, actual sheets) to fuse these together before I sew the sides? I'm trying to prevent a wobbly middle, if that makes sense. The woman in the fabric dept. said it might work but i'm not so sure now that i'm laying all the pieces out. If not SW, what can I use to fuse these two fabrics together?
Thank you everyone for your answers...they were all great and I used a few of your tricks to finish my son's blanket just now. It came out great and he loves that mommy made it! Thanks again!
Temporary spray adhesive, then stitch full length&width grid 6"squares with invisible thread on graphic side.Preshrink the cotton and use a long stitch length.A very thin batting could be added to give a slight billowed appearance and added warmth.Sewing the edges first, while wrong side out and turning then hand stitch the turning hole. Then a perimeter stitch leaves a nice simple edge.

The Company Store has a great selection of flannel sheets, but you will find a better selection during the cooler seasons. HOWEVER... if they have anything left over, it will be on clearance now. Go to their site and check out their clearance items first, then click on the link on their page which will take you to Company Kids. Unique/cute stuff there for kids - bedding and clothing too.
Don't forget to look for special discount codes for first time customers as well as discounts on shipping if you plan to buy online.
Overstock.com has a great selection of cotton flannel as well, and you can usually find it year round. The only catch is that their sheet sets are usually priced the same for all size ranges. (You'll pay the same for a twin set, as you would for a king set. Might be a bit over-priced in that case.) They do have some crib sets as well, but again, flannel may be hard to find in May.
Don't forget that your local stores may also have toddler flannel bedding on clearance now. You might be able to find some great deals locally and save the shipping cost. You'll have to pay for the gas to get there and back, so maybe buying online isn't so expensive after all! <grinning>
Check out the upromise.com site, as you can save for college as you shop online, and also find discounts through their site as well. You get a percentage of the purchase price added to a 529 College Savings Account, and many stores offer free shipping to Upromise members. I've been a member there for about 8 years now, and the savings has really added up!
Good luck on your search!

I am making my son a comforter for his toddler bed, fabrics are cotton and polyester...should I wash b4 I sew?!?!?!?
Give the fabrics a very light wash and dry in the dryer.
This will eliminate possible shrinkage after the comforter is sewn, washes away sizing applied during the manufacturing, and anything else that could have transferred during the handling of the fabric before it was purchase.
Snip a small diagonal cut across each corner of the fabrics to help eliminate fraying. Agitate a few minutes, spin and rinse a few minutes and then dry.
When cutting out the fabric, do not use the selvages - it will pucker after sewing regardless of the pre wash.
The selvage edge is the side of the fabric not cut in the store. It may have tiny holes in it, be off color or have small circles of the colors used in the printing of the fabric.
The cut edges (cut in store when purchased) is the cross-grain, it has a little give/stretch.
The selvage edge is the straight of grain and has very little give/stretch.
The diagonal of the two is the bias and has a lot of give/stretch.
After completion, I lightly wash and dry again.
Your project will turn out great.
My daughter has been sleeping in her toddler bed for about a month now. She uses a regular size down pillow and a down comforter. She has slept with a small baby size (flat like) cotton pillow before. By this age, it should be safe, right?
Tonight was the first time I had a twinge of doubt. She looked so tiny wrapped up in the big blanket laying on the big pillow. But you guys have helped put my mind at ease already! Thanks!
My daughter was in a toddler bed at 18 months and had a full size pillow like we use but not a down one - I'd say it's fine. They say no quilts or pillows before 12 months so 17 months should be fine
I don't mean a fancy quilt where you're stitching hexagonal units together and clever stuff like that. I mean how do you make a plain quilt, about 50 by 60 inches?
I want to put cars on it. I think I would fold it to work out how many squares I'd get and then iron the creases in, and then put a car (appliqued) in each square, but I've never done it before.
My toddler son is crazy about cars and I'd love to try to make him a little quilt for his cot-bed.
I'd be grateful for any advice. I can applique and I love cutting out shapes and putting them together to make car shapes but I've never tried to make a quilt before. I bought the wadding/batting from ebay, and some pale blue cotton for the cover fabric and I just need to work out how to stitch it together to make a car-car-blanky for him!
I literally want all advice. I know it in theory, I've googled it, but I'm still wanting advice from people who know it in practice. Please tell me if you know anything on how to do this? I really want it to work out. I'm all excited about it and I want to get it right.
Thank you
xxx

Barefooted Blessings: Toddler Bed for $37 - D.I.Y
Now that we live in a fairly big apartment and have extra rooms (and no visitors) we have decided that it is time to kick some tiny butt off our bed and make a cozy tiny peaceful space for our tiny girl. My overprotective self is thinking my poor little baby won't be able to sleep alone on a big new room but... I have to admit that I am the one who will probably have trouble sleeping the first nights. I didn’t include the price of the mattress in the project because most people in need of a toddler bed will already have a crib size mattress from their crib. If you do plan to use a standard crib mattress, you’ll need to make adjustments to the size of the base. Standard crib...
