Cotton Stripe Bed

I bought a bed skirt online that was supposed to be a pale blue and white stripe, but is actually navy blue and dark beige. I can't return it, so I'm wondering if there's any way to lighten the colour. I'm a little reluctant to try bleach, as I don't know what that will do to the fabric. It's 50/50 cotton and polyester, and I'm open to suggestions. Thank you.
Thanks for all your help with this problem. I decide to try dye remover, which didn't work even when I used twice the recommended amount, then i decide to try bleach, and even 2 cups of bleach in a bucket of water didn't do anything. The tag clearly says 50% cotton and 50% poly, so this one of the two should have had some effect. This thing is indestructible!

You can try bleach or a color remover, but chances are you're just going to turn it another upleasant color or two, depending on how the polyester is distributed in the fabric. Polyester does not bleach well by home methods.

Could you live with it if you overdyed it navy?

The other possibility is to use an opaque but light bodied fabric paint... though that will make the fabric stiff.

my bed covers(doesnt have a tag sying what material,i THINK its cotton)are pink on one side white with colorful flowers on the other, bed cushion is all white with duck feathers inside(has a tag that says"DRY CLEAN ONLY), a teddy bear(tag says"HAND WASHABLE",ISURE DONT THINK SO WITH THE LOOKS OF IT!) all white with a pink ribbon,and a small pillow(a 100% polyester)all white with stripes of light purple. oh!and imut do this before my parents get back at around twelve.by the way, is it possible to wash any of it with other clothes? thank you sooooo much!!!

Quite the prediciment you have there. Obviously do not even try to wash the bed cushion with duck feathers. That will result in disastor. Your parents will be much angrier if you ruin an expensive comforter than having to go to the dry cleaner. For the sheets wash them seperately (this goes for all the time, not just in this situation). Change the settings for a small load, and do them in warm - cold water. Add about a 1/3 of a cup of detergent. The cycle settings should be your moderate setting, whatever that may be. For your teddy bear, hand wash it; teddy bears do not wash well in washing machine. Just explain to your parents what happened, and I'm sure if you get the sheets done they'll appreciate the effort. Good luck!

I'm a college student living in a dorm for the first time this year. My dorm needs Twin XL bedding and to save money, I'm using my cousin's who moved into an apartment and no longer needs it.

Only thing is, it's really ugly. It's a weird pastel striped pattern on one side and dark blue and floral on the other.

If I throw it in the wash with hot water and bleach, will I have a white comforter? I'd like to just dye it a solid color or tye-dye it after, I'd just like to know if the color will come out completely. The tag says it's 100% cotton.

I think this is an investment worth making. I lived in the dorms, too, and with the way dorms look these days, having a nice new bedding set will really make a difference. Also, most other people with have new ones, so you don't want to feel left out.

PS: I was definitely a penny pincher in college; I didn't have financial support from parents, so I definitely respect trying to save money!

There are very cool wall stickers that come in those hot colors. They are removable and can be re-arranged when you feel like it. See the sources below.
Also look at PBTeen site (link below) for hot pinks, orange, etc...pillows and a lot of teen room decor stuff like rugs lamps.

Another option if you act fast, is the dorm stuff that WalMart has had for Back to School. they had great hot pink , orange and also yellow desk chairs for only $20...I got two and love them. They raise and lower. I do not think they are on the W-M website, just in stores and limited quantity.

An odd thing is that in the stores all this dorm stuff was not grouped totally together but on end caps in various places. I would see things in their ads and look forever to find it in the stores. (The employees were very helpful tho)

Wow! That wall background almost blinded me!
Try:[ from bedding colors ]
pink,
peach,
light blue, or
lavender on walls;
Then:
add solid sheers in one of above colors
You could:
make a row of squares in the bright colors of bedding [ br pink, peach,
br green, blue, lavender ] on accent wall; or as a border.
Don't overdo it, though!
Add: accessories[ throw pillows, vase/planter, lamps/shade, desk and dresser stuff; candles/holders ]
in the wall color, the curtain color, and one of the bedding colors - to make room look coordinated and classy, but not 'busy'.

pink walls,
lime curtains.
bright border, and
lt. blue, lime, and pink accessories [
