What kind of fabric is best for sheets?

I bought $75 100% cotton sateen sheets from Bed Bath & Beyond, and after one wash the sateen finish had disappeared even though it said the sheets were machine washable. The sheets are also excessivley wrinkly and I have long hair, so any hair that falls out while I'm sleeping clings to the sheets even after washing. I have really long, thick hair, so there's a lot of hair collecting on the sheets and I have to individually pick them out (gross!). My other polyster-cotton blend sheets don't have the same problem, but I've heard that 100 percent cotton sheets are better (they're certainly more expensive). So what's the deal? Why am I paying more for sheets that hold up worse? Is there a type of cotton I should be looking for? Or should I just stick with the cotton-polyster blend? I don't want to spend a fortune on sheets that will end up having the same problem.

Did you save your receipt for the sheets? I'd write the company a polite letter of complaint. Maybe they'll reimburse you or give a new different type of sheet.

Cotton-polyster blend holds up fine. Get 'em at Target, KMart or Wal-Mart. Wait 'til they have a White Sale.

What NOT to buy: flannel sheets (you get real sweaty and they make a lot of lint in the dryer); and silk or satin sheets, because you slide off them and they are expensive to clean.

Hope that helps!

Do I need to wash a brandnew cotton blanket at all, like brandnew bedsheets?

I just bought a brand new Wamsetta cotton blanket from Bed, Bath & Beyond size Queen.

I was told I should wash this blanket like I would brandnew bed sheets. But I don't understand why I should wash a new cotton blanket, do I need to? I don't even bother washing new bed sheets when I buy them from stores...why is that necessary and should I wash my new cotton blanket at all????

No I'm not making a big deal trying to learn hwo I shoudl approach using new bed linens and whether they need to be washed or NOT.

Thanks.

Someone told me once that the manufacturers of clothing and bed linens use formaldehyde in their processing. Even if that is not true, what does the manufacturer use to get that crisp new feeling so it looks good in the package? And, is it something I want rubbing against my skin? Rather than take any chances, I wash new things. I'm going to watch your answers. Maybe someone can tell us about the manufacturing process.

Best sheets... I want the brand name, thread count, and where you buy them.?

I'm tring to find nice bed sheets...cotton only. No flannel, silk, satin, polyester blends etc. I know the higher the thread count the better is the common rule, but I'm not sure thats always the case, so I want names. Also, please no statements like egyptian cottan, pima cotton etc. unless you have a name brand and location. I know you can buy bed sheets at bed bath, and beyond but there are so many choices to make I want someone who can give me a good recommendation for sheets.

It's all about the thread count. As you wash the higher thread count, they don't pill, they stay absorbent and feel as soft as silk. I found some 1000 TC, but you could look on overstock for anything over 400 and be VERY happy. Brand does not make a difference in bed.http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/100 0-TC-Egyptian-Cotton-Striped-Sheet-Set/2 941327/product.html?
If you really want the best, though, why not go for pure silk? Mmmmmm...http://www.vivaterra.com/pls/enetrixp/!s tmenu_template.main?complex_id_in=482007 .486161.908110.3132885.page

Best place for bed sheets, modal or bamboo fiber?

I link maybe, I know bamboo is really expensive, modal is same as cotton. Any discount stores? I've seen modal at Bed Bath and Beyond but not bamboo. help?

You can check with http://www.gotchacoveredusa.com/PURELINE .html I prefer cotton especially if you are buying it for the purpose of being more chemical free. Then look to organic. Organic Bamboo is also available but be careful and do your research. http://www.stlbeds.com/articles/2009/12/ 21/organic-cotton-vs-organic-bamboo/?pre view=true&preview_id=2016&previe w_nonce=170c7e6f9c to learn about Organic Cotton vs. Organic Bamboo

Where are the types of sheets that were wrinkle free and don't pill? New sheets a rip-off?

I have purchased several sets of cotton sheets and they all wrinkle a lot and they all pill. With the Easy Care from Bed Bath and Beyond, I have to put a lot of lotion on my feet. I have pedicures!!!!

What thread count sheets are you using? The higher the thread count the better quality you get.High quality sheets will not pill and are softer.Use at least a thread count of 1000.I use 3000 thread count and I love them. They are expensive but worth it.They last a lot longer and feel great.I usually buy them when they are 50% off at JC Penny's.

  • Things We Like: Wamsutta Comfort Soft Cotton Sheet Set, 400-Thread ...

We used to think bed sheets are all about thread count, that low count sheets would be coarse and uncomfortable and high count sheets would be luxurious and decadent. Having purchased sheets all across the spectrum (from 200-count K-Mart sheets to 1000-count "hotel" sheets), we have come to the conclusion that although generally speaking higher thread count indicates higher quality, the best sheets in terms of quality + comfort (we like soft and smooth sheets) do not necessarily have the highest thread count.

Thread count is a measurement of the number of threads in an inch. This means a higher thread count has a finer (less coarse) weave. Below 300-count, this is easy to see - when you hold the fabric up to a light, you can see between the threads. Higher than 300-count, the fabric is dense enough that you usually cannot see through it. The 1000-count sheet we had was so dense that it felt almost like a solid piece (not woven) and if tented could hold its own weight up. Although very high quality, this sheet wasn't as soft as we liked. The type of cotton also makes a difference. We've found Egyptian cotton to be softer than Supima, and both to be softer than other cottons. The Wamsutta Comfort Soft sheet set is made of extra fine Egyptian cotton, and feels softer, silkier, and lighter than the 600 thread-count supima cotton sheet set we have.
