I am interested in using some fabric to make a quilt/duvet cover for my bed.
Here is the fabric: http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/p-12780-cat h-kidston-spray-flowers-cotton-duck-fabr ic.aspx
Can cotton duck be used to for bedding? Or is it too stiff?
Yes, it is much too stiff -- it would be like sleeping under cardboard.
It should be easy to find a pattern like that in a soft muslin, percale or other soft cotton. In fact, I have seen many sheet patterns like that floral. Buying two flat sheets and stitching them together on three sides with buttons or snaps along the fourth edge is a quick and economical way to make a duvet cover. The problem with making a duvet with fabric you buy by the yard is that it is usually not wide enough and you have to make a seam down the middle or on two sides to get the width to cover the bed.

I recently found out i might have dust mites. i just purchased a new comforter that i have not slept in yet but i am wondering if it is going to be more harmful then maybe a blanket or quilt. I am wondering what type of fabric is best. I really don't want this problem to get worse? i just bought all the mattress covers and pillow protectors.thanks
No difference. Put a duvet cover over the comforter and that way you can wash the item more often. you need to vacuum thoroughly each day. Change the bag and rid yourself of this problem

I've always used low-loft polyester batting. Will cotton batting work with a standard sewing machine (not a long arm)? The quilt will be for twin size bed.
I am not a long term quilter, but on my first quilt I used Warm and Natural (cotton) with my cotton fabrics. It was easy as pie to get it to lay straight and even, and easy to quilt. It was a baby quilt but held together beautifully. I used a low loft poly one for the second one and had a terrible time getting it flat and straight. It turned out all right but I spent much more time pinning the poly than spraying with basting spray and getting the cotton layers even

I washed it, and didn't notice the stain and already dried it once, so I'm afraid it's set in for good. Any advice?
pretreat the baby oil stain with shout or a little bit of liquid detergent.
I have an Amish cotton handmade quilt that I want to hang over my bed. It's approximatley 6 feet wide by 5 feet down, and not too awfully heavy. Kind of like a light bedspread weight. What's the best way? I want to keep it as simple as possible, and know hardly anything about decoration. Thanks for your time.
Check the back - it may already have a hanging sleeve sewn on. If so, use any type of decorative curtain rod. If there isn't a hanging sleeve, you could try sewing one on yourself. It's just a piece of fabric about 3" - 4" wide about 2" from the top edge of the quilt.
If you'd rather not sew anything to the quilt, you can buy quilt hangers. There are several different styles, and they come in a range of prices. There are small ones (a couple of inches, usually about $6 a piece) that you space out along the wall. You may need three or four for a quilt that size. There are longer decorative ones that are a but more expensive.
