Cotton Percale Bedding

what is the differnce between plain hem pairs and oxford unit pillowcases .

I have the choice to choose out of both when ordering pillow cases and am not sure of the difference. many thanks! here is the link to see what im talking about....

Oxford pillow cases have a wider "hem" around the outside, usually a couple of inches, where as plain pillow cases don't. If you look at the black pillow case on the left, that is the Oxford one.

I'm looking at two different duvet covers from Pottery Barn Teen. When it says "made from our softest 200-thread-count cotton percale", how soft is it? As soft as microfiber? And how is the quality?

I had some sheets from PBKids. They were only 200 count or something, but they were the SOFTEST sheets ever! I never wanted to rotate my bedding. The only issue I had was that they got wrinkly in the wash, but I'm not so anal that I would iron them or anything.
It isn't soft like microfiber. It's like regular cotton sheets, just softer. And the quality is great. Keep your reciept, they have (or at least used to have) a generous return policy. But I don't think you'll need to return them.

what is the overall, applique, and fill??? thanks so much!

i am thinking of buying the Dottie Quilt & Sham from pbteen. would i have to buy like pillow inserts and/or duvet inserts?

I'm assuming this is a bedspread/comforter..

the fill is the fluffy stuff inside of the bedspread.
appliques are shapes usually in a contrasting color or fabric, that are stitched around the borders to form a design, .. (example, on a child's comforter, there might be the shape of a boat appliqued onto it)
overall, is just.... overall... all of the outer fabric. ;)

I'm trying to refurnish my room and I'm looking online for perfect bedsheets, etc. for my bed. However... some of these definitions I don't understand.

"220-thread-count cotton percale"
- What is a PERCALE?!

" Sham Set"
- What is a SHAM?!
When someone mentions shams, do they only mean shams for pillows?

The quality and type of cotton and shams are pillow cases.
Yes the shams are what your pillows go in, same as pillowcases just fancier to coordinate with your throw (bedspread). Hope this helps. I have one pillow with a normal pillowcase on and a sham on the other pillow, then when I go to bed I sleep on the normal one, this way the sham stays new longer, it's cheaper to replace the plain one than the sham, and when the bedding range changes you can't replace the sham and end up having to buy the full set, throw and shams.

My mattress is absolutely worn out and is giving me major back aches first thing in the morning...but i can't get myself a new one cos they're always so expensive!
Can those mattress topper things do the job of a mattress??
What about bedding??...Can't afford egyptian cotton/percale...what's the next best thing??

I'm a student and have a single bed if it helps.

You might want to try to get a piece of plywood (cut the same size as your mattress), and place it between your mattress and box spring. This should firm up your mattress. Next, try getting some of that "egg-crate" bedding for under your sheets. These are very comfortable, and should give you a good night's sleep.
