My mother in law wants me to sew a hem arround the edge of this bed spread and it is huge.. I"m not sure how to do it. I have hemmed fleece and stuff but not this fabric.. I think it is a poly/cotton blend.. She does want me to use any of the quilt binding on it so I'm bumfuggled here... Please Help
on correction she doesn't want me to use any binding on it..

Do you have enough fabric to do at least a 1/2" wide miter (is the fabric given at least 2" wider and longer than the finished size needs to be?)

what do you call those thin bed spreads that are made of cotton, sort of terry towelling fabric that have the fringe around the bottom. Can you still buy them and what are they called? Thanks

They are actually more likely from the 1950s, but some were made in the 60s too... They are called "chenille", and you can still find clean/ not worn ones occasionally (in the US) at antique stores and auctions (including ebay), etc.. I have seen newer "repos" (most often only in white), but often they contain more synthetic materials, and don't quite feel the same.... If you don't demand perfection, I find them pretty regularly at flea markets, garage sales, etc.with a few small holes, etc... (I am an antique dealer and sell the perfect ones, and enjoy the more "loved" ones on my own beds so I don't mind if they get further worn...I have a great "wedding ring" pattern red one on my double bed right now... You don't find many in sizes larger than double bed except the repros... )

Don't put fingernail polish remover on it!
I know it sounds crazy but put mens shaving cream on it. Let it sit for a minute and then scrub it in with a warm wet clean cloth. This will only work if it is fresh nail polish, and it has to be cream not foaming gel
