Just got some Egyptian cotton bedding - should I wash them more than once?

I've read that the more you wash them the softer they get. Should I put them through the washing machine a few times?

No. That would be wasteful. They mean that as you use them and over time, they continue to soften. There is no need to wash repeatedly between uses.

Is Egyptian cotton the best in bedding?

I am planning to upgrade the bedding in my entire house and decided to go for the best this time. Is Egyptian cotton the best and softest of all? I am going for separate sheets, covers, comfortors etc., as opposed to "bed-in-a-bag with pretty designs" which I had previously, so that I can select higher threadcounts...what threadcounts are considered the best in Egyptian cotton?

Lastly what are some good places to get these from?

(Only soft bedding enthusiasts answer!)

Anything over 350 or 400 thread count is great but the higher you can go the better. Be aware that they will come out of the dryer looking like they need to be ironed and I do iron my pillow cases and the top of the top sheet that shows. These days sheets of this level can be purchased in a lot of places but you can get your best deals at Linens N Things and Bed Bath and Beyond especially with their ongoing 20% off coupons. The bed in a bag sheets are usually only 250 so you are right to not want to use them. If I like the comforters and shams in them, I give the sheets to Goodwill. My highest thread count right now is 1000 and it is perfect. Be sure to wash these sheets on a cold water setting and dry them on a delicate setting. They can shrink if you don't

what's the difference between egyptian cotton and regular fabric for bedding?

i don't get it. why on earth would someone spend 50-100 bucks on bedding just because it's egyptian cotton instead of regular? isn't all bedding the same? please help insight a guy on this =D

No, it's not all the same.

Egyptian cotton (and other high-thread count bedding) are much, much softer and more luxurious than the lower-priced bedding available.

Has to do with the length of the fibers used in the weave of the cotton, but for practical purposes, the big difference is in the "feel" of the fabric.

Lots of people think it's totally worth it to blow big bucks on the pricier stuff, but I'm in the minority ... I actually PREFER the crisper, less soft feel of the cheaper ones!

What is the difference between regular cotton and Egyptian cotton?

& also what does thread count mean?

I recently bought some bedding, both Egyptian cotton (320 and 500 thread count) but i was thinking of returning them for some regular cotton sheets because of the price difference?

Can you even notice a difference in your sheets between the 2?

yes i notice the difference.Egyptian cotton is softer than most other cotton.
